Pride and Prejudice

Turteatern once again opens its doors to one of its most acclaimed productions as the critically praised interpretation of Jane Austen’s ”Pride and Prejudice” returns to the stage. After a triumphant premiere in 2021, it’s time to be swept away into a familiar universe, but viewed through an entirely new, challenging, and personal lens. This is not merely a return, but a renewed invitation to experience a classic as you’ve never seen it before.

This free interpretation is a collaborative masterpiece created by Amanda Apetrea, Lisen Rosell, and Nadja Hjorton. Together with Daniel Åkerström Steen, responsible for the imaginative costumes and makeup, and Chrisander Brun, in charge of the evocative scenography and lighting design, they have woven together a performance where the classical meets the contemporary with a bold and uncompromising voice.

Join us in an embracing and romantic world where steaming teacups mingle with dangerous ink and feverish cheeks. On stage, drama unfolds amidst grand estates, sharp class contempt, stiff bosoms in tight cotton, and misty wetlands. In this unique version of Jane Austen’s iconic world, gritty everyday life intertwines with fragile porcelain and heavy teabags, in a fascinating blend of the sublime and the earthy.

ARTISTIC VISION

The core of this production is the unique scenic method that the artistic group has developed over many years. With a strong focus on desire, physicality, sexuality, humor, and direct audience contact, they create their own distinct scenic universes. Through collective research and a non-hierarchical collaboration where text, body, space, light, makeup, and costume interact, they transform well-known stories into something entirely unique and innovative.

This experienced ensemble has a long history of successful collaborations. Parts of the team were last seen in the acclaimed performance "Fäbodjäntan" at Dramaten in spring 2026, and previous productions include "Grottbjörnens folk" at Turteatern in 2017. With "Pride and Prejudice," they continue to challenge and enchant their audience with their unmistakable style and artistic integrity.
